Family Fun in Chicago

Before school started we took one last mini-vacation as a family. We headed to Chicago - one of our favorite spots. We started off in Downer's Grove where we enjoyed time at the pool and had a delicious supper at Sweet Tomatoes (thanks for the suggestion, Karen).

The next day we headed to downtown Chicago where we enjoyed spending time at Navy Pier and the Children's Museum there. The girls both had a blast. The weather was awesome so we enjoyed spending some time outside too. For dinner we headed to the Cheesecake Factory, one of our usual stops. Dinner was quick as both girls were definitely ready for bed.

The next morning we ate at a lovely sidewalk cafe. We all enjoyed eating breakfast there and watching the busy traffic nearby. Of course we had to make a stop at the American Girl store, where Hannah picked out a gymnastics outfit for her doll. You can tell what she's into since watching the Olympics. The outfit even came with its own gold medal. Hannah also used her money to buy Coconut the dog for her doll. Ava just went along for the ride, although I think she was making a mental list for when she gets bigger. :-)

In the afternoon we headed to see our friends John and Ruth who live north of downtown Chicago. It was great to see them again and spend time visiting. We were able to see their Coffee shop & church and we also enjoyed a delicious lunch together. The time passed far too quickly and soon we headed for home. Our quick trip was a great way to end the summer.
